Thanks Arbuthnot. I am interested in your solution. I currently use Internet Explorer. But I am curious as to the Firefox vs. IE issue. What advantages does FF have over IE? Thanks again.

first and foremost, i use FF due to its allowing me far greater means to manage my browsing experience, from blocking/controling ads, cookies, flashware, malware, popups, script management, etc. ... in other words, i only view what i want to view and my browsing experience is 99% ad-free, and free from anything being installed on my computer without my express permission; overall, with various plugins and extensions, FF gives greater protection against nefarious and insidious activity; it is also far faster (in my experience and with my system) than IE

if you do decide to give FF a try, i would consider (at least) the following ad-ons:

Adblock Plus
DownThemAll!
Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus
Flashblock
Greasemonkey
NoScript

FF does take a bit of getting used to (and tweaking), but after a slight learning curve, you'll be quite glad that you switched

Agree with everything you've stated regarding FF vs IE with two exceptions. First, the favorites menu in IE is easier to use and manage when compared to bookmarks in FF.

Second and most importantly, you cannot create shortcuts to the desktop with FF. Other than those two features, if you're a PC user and respect your privacy on the internet, FF is the way to go.

Microsoft is in the business to sell software, and continually drop support for older operating systems such as XP. It was obvious with the launch of IE8 and just how poorly this so called "upgraded" browser performs, that the real jist was to get users to buy Windows 7.

the bookmarks comparisons i'll have to take your word for it as i haven't used IE as my default browser since FF came into existence; although, as someone who does not save internet shortcuts to the desktop, and as someone who uses shortcut keys to bring up 90% of the websites i visit, the functionality of the bookmarks feature becomes a moot point

Do not use IE! Use Chrome, Firefox, Opera... But don't use IE. I use Chrome for the awesome homepage. Unless you happen to look at discretional material... Cough Cough Because it just puts you top 8 websites right on your homepage. And I know not everyone would like to the top 8 websites you may frequent...

Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer. That is a little joke some of my computer programmer buddies print out exactly like the drug one and post around my college campus.
